Velis Joyce Williams, age 95, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at
Montefiore hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on August 14, 1930 in Jamaica, to the late Ethel Cockings and
Hepburn Williams. She grew up in Kingston and immigrated to the US in 1967
settling in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. She spent over three decades
working in the nursing department in Montefiore hospital.
Velis was a long-time member of Olivet Gospel Church in the North Bronx. Her
happiest times were spent enjoying time with family and friends, watching the
New York Yankees, cooking and baking for family gatherings and completing
jigsaw puzzles.
She will be remembered for being a supportive mother, a loving grandmother, a
great friend, and an exceptional cook.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Wilbert Williams, and daughter, Annette
Mendes. She will be deeply missed by her four children, seven grandchildren,
three great grandchildren, many other loving family and church members and
friends.
