Linnette Zenderine Josephs
July 15, 1943 – January 3, 2025
Linnette Zenderine Josephs (née Preston), 81, of Montego Bay, Jamaica and Mt. Vernon, NY passed
away on January 3, 2025 at NY Presbyterian Hospital in Bronxville, NY. Linnette was the youngest and
only daughter born in Lower York, St. Thomas Jamaica to Caleb and Francella Preston. Her older
brother, Keith, along with her parents, predeceased her many years ago.
At seven years old, Linnette and her family relocated to Seaforth, St. Thomas due to Hurricane
Charlie. She lived there until her early teenage years, where she and her mother were active
members of Seaforth Methodist Church. Linnette attended Seaforth Elementary School and later,
Tutorial College for secondary school. Like many students at the time in Jamaica, during her time at
Tutorial, she lived at a boarding home in Kingston, Jamaica, and then later, with family and friends.
While in high school, Linnette enjoyed working at the Lannaman's Confectionery candy factory during
the holidays. It was also during high school that she gained the affectionate nickname "Bibs" and
formed lifelong friendships with "the Bobettes" - ladies that would remain close for decades. After
high school, Linnette worked at a government job in Jamaica.
However, Linnette's passion was cooking and the culinary arts. She wanted to become a chef and was
accepted to culinary schools in Kingston, JA and England, UK. But as fate would have it, a coveted
work Visa presented her with the opportunity to immigrate to Canada at the age of 26. There, she
began working at Milnes Coal Co. Ltd, and made additional lifelong friends.
While in Canada, Linnette met the love of her life through a mutual friend. She moved to the Bronx,
New York and married Waldermor (Wally) Percival Josephs on Valentine's Day in 1978. Together in
New York, they raised Junior, Sharon, Sean and Melissa. They were also surrounded by a tight-knit
family that lived in the same community. Their home was often the setting for Thanksgiving, family
gatherings, New Year's parties and tons of laughter. These memories brought Linnette much comfort
in her later years.
Linnette worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in various positions until her retirement
as an Account Specialist in 2010. She was also an active member of Butler Memorial United Methodist
Church, where she served as Treasurer of the United Methodist Women, participated in special choirs
and enjoyed fellowship with her family and friends. Linnette also enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing,
and spending quality time with loved ones.
Linnette's love and husband, Wally, waits for her in heaven, along with their son, Sean Josephs, who
died on June 30, 2023. She is survived and loved by her daughters, Sharon Amos and Melissa Josephs;
son Waldemarr (Junior) Josephs; grandchildren Preston, Nia, Lashawna, Winton, Sean Jr., Hamilton,
and Shauna; sons-in-laws Ed and Lloyd, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline; and a plethora of nieces,
nephews, in-laws, family and close friends.
