Obituary for Emmanuel Macenat "Gwo Papa"**
Emmanuel Macenat, lovingly known as "Gwo Papa," passed away peacefully at the age
of 100 on March 24, 2025. Born on October 14, 1924, in Section Lahoye, Lascahobas,
Haiti, Emmanuel was the cherished son of Paulevin Macenat and Therese Julien.
In September 1949, Emmanuel united in marriage with Marie Rose Fala Massenat, and
together they built a beautiful family rooted in love and commitment. His journey to the
United States began on December 16, 1972, where he continued to share his abundant
talents and passion with those around him.
Throughout his life, Emmanuel exemplified dedication as a teacher, farmer, tailor, and
cook. His love for education inspired many, while his culinary skills delighted family and
friends alike. A generous man at heart, Emmanuel touched the lives of countless
individuals. He donated land in Haiti for a school in Lascahobas and provided
assistance to students in need. Emmanuel had a profound love for gardening and
animals, and his faith was integral to his life. Emmanuel accepted Christ as his personal
savior on August 29, 2019. In February 2020, he expressed his devotion by being water
baptized, and his love for prayer was a constant in his daily routine.
Emmanuel is survived by his two brothers Pauleus Macenat, and Orel Macenat his five
beloved children and their spouses: Elizabeth Etienne, Oswald Etienne, Agathe
Macenat Roseau, Jean Macenat, Marie Ange Macenat, Sauver Macenat, Guelaine
Macenat, Jean Robert Macenat, and Marjorie Macenat. He is also survived by a loving
extended family, including his fifteen grandchildren and their spouses: Valerie Basquin,
Claude Basquin, Jean-Alendy Etienne, Cassandra Etienne, Nady Tido Etienne, Danie
Etienne, Irmine Roseau, Patrice Cole, Charles Cole, Mathilde Harrison, Ricardo
Harrison, Majorie Macenat, MiIca Macenat, Cassandra Macenat, Hophni Macenat,
Keisha Macenat, Guerline Pierre, Romel Pierre, Eliana Macenat, Emmanuel Macenat,
David Roseau, Aquasi Roseau, Herve Roseau, and Michelle Roseau.
Emmanuel took immense pride in his 22 great-grandchildren: Agyeman Adarkwa,
Claudia Basquin, Jeremy Basquin, Elijah Basquin, Naomi Etienne, Caleb Etienne, Chad
Cole, Brielle Harrison, Mason Harrison, Ariel Macenat, Aden Macenat, Madeline Pierre,
Mirielle Pierre, Zhorna Roseau, Zhory Roseau, Genesis Roseau, Mathew Roseau
Sarah Etienne, Nathanael Etienne, Ralphela Etienne, and Annie Etienne. He will also
be missed by his adoptive daughter Marie Lourdes Denauld, her husband Gesper
Denauld and her children Gesnide, Jonathan, Rebecca, Esther, Rachelle and his many
nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The legacy of Emmanuel Macenat—as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother in Christ, and dear friend—will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who
had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit of kindness, strength, and resilience will
never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Gwo Papa. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
